My Teaching Philosophy
I seek to nurture a love and understanding of music in my teaching and to express it through the piano.
I teach in a holistic way, incorporating the technique of playing with the development of musical understanding using music that the student enjoys to learn. My lessons are flexible and I use all styles of music.
Making music can be enjoyed by everyone and it is never to late to learn or pick it up again.
Guidance for Practising the Piano
Practising is the keystone to progress and gaining the enjoyment of playing. Potential students must be willing to make the time to practise effectively. Ideally piano practice should happen daily for six days a week
15 minutes per day – beginner level
20 minutes per day – grade 1 & 2 level
30 minutes per day – grade 3 to 5 level
40 minutes per day – grade 6 level
An hour + per day – advanced levels
Practice is most effective when it is divided into several specific tasks for short amounts of time.
Parental supervision in the early stages has been proven to help children make better progress.
Sahaana (4yrs) loves practising the piano!
More About What I Can Offer
I can offer private tuition in harmony, analysis and history to those studying music at advanced levels. Please contact me to discuss your needs, my availability and rates.
I have two pianos in my studio, an upright and a grand piano which is useful for teaching to demonstrate a point of technique or to play along with a student. It gives the opportunity for ensemble work, accompanying piano concertos and playing 2 piano works.
I can offer remote piano lessons if required – please contact me to discuss how this can work.
About Me

I have an ARCM teaching qualification in piano and many years’ successful experience teaching students of all ages from all levels guiding them on their personal musical journeys and helping them through exams and concert performances along the way.
